Train Delay

by Olivia

That train was supposed to be here ten minutes ago. The platform was quiet except for the faint murmur of people and the breeze rustling the leaves nearby. It’s ok that I missed that one train. Right? The train had its schedule. We expect it to come on time, to take us where we want to go without interruption. But sometimes, it doesn’t apparently. And while on that platform waiting by empty tracks, I noticed faces I hadn’t before. We were all waiting, together, connected by this unexpected pause. Sure, we were all zoned out and ready to get on with the day, but I couldn’t help but think how calm this subtle moment was. I tilted my head back and just thought: life’s delays aren’t failures or setbacks—they are part of the journey and we have to live in the present. Life makes us wait, yes, but it also gives us time to reflect, meet others, and grow. So next time your train delays find the odd nook of that moment and don’t worry about where the train is and where it can take you.
